DIY: Jorts

Unique?… Nope.  Must Have?… Yep.

DIY Jorts

Jorts are a serious must have, unless you’re a guy.  Shockingly, denim shorts can be stylish.  When paired with a slouchy tee, scarf, and pointy flats, you have a stylish daytime outfit (hello Starbucks and Target).  Obviously, DIYing jorts is self explanatory… but here’s how I turned the most absurd pair of jeans into wearable denim shorts.

Jeans To Jorts

I was ordering some sneaks from Old Navy a few months ago (they’re cheap and it’s good to switch up running shoes), and I needed to make $50 to get the free shipping.  I just cannot handle paying for shipping, I don’t know why but I will always add items to my cart to qualify for free shipping.  Anyway, I’ve been loving boyfriend jeans so I decided to add a pair that happened to be on sale.  Big mistake.  When the jeans arrived, they were like hardcore mom jeans.  I put them on, laughed hysterically, and marked where I wanted to cut with a sharpie.  If it wasn’t for my painted nails in the photo above, I would totally think this was my grandfather.

Denim Shorts

These freaking jeans were a monstrosity.  I wanted to make cuffed shorts, but that wasn’t working out… they resembled a diaper.  So, I had to cut them shorter.  I still see a little bit of diaper in these jorts, but it’s stylish and subtle (like MAYBE something Alexa Chung would wear).

Although my jorts eventually worked out, I’ve learned my lesson.  I will never ever order anything from Old Navy again… no matter how good the deal is.

Don’t want no Iny weeny teeny weeny shriveled little short jorts man.

Headband Haul

Every year when it starts to warm up, I develop a major fear of bugs flying into my ears.  I have no idea where this comes from, I probably saw something on Discovery Health… but it’s back.  Luckily I’m able to keep my fear at bay with cute headbands, and I ordered a few this week.

Forever 21 has a sickening selection of headwear ranging from $1 – $4.  Needless to say, that’s where I did my headband shopping.  Each headband that I ordered was only $3.80…

Headband Haul

and headbands are a warm weather must have.  Here’s what I got.

Turban Headband

This is the one that I was most excited about.  I love a thick turban headie.  This one can make shorts and a tee look stylish, it can make a topknot look good, and it can hide a bad hair day.  I’ve already worn this headband and a few strangers complimented it.  I love it, but it kind of makes me feel like Jambi from Pee-Wee’s Playhouse.

Thick Headband

J’adore the soft springy colors in this headwrap.  It’s like a scarf or bandana without the bulkiness or bad pattern.

Summer Headband

This is probably my least favorite of all the headbands that I ordered.  The colors are gorge, but the shape is a bit bizarre and asymmetrical.  Whatevs, it will still tame beachy waves.

Scarf Headband

This looks adorbs in messy hair, it makes it look effortless.

Beach HeadbandBeach Barbie realness.  I’ve been wearing this one everywhere.

Bow HeadbandClassic with a twist.  You see this style all the time in navy blue and red, baby blue is so much softer.

GiftsI also got a few little gifts.

That’s my haul, not super exciting… but it feels like I got a whole lot of new shizz, and I only spent $33!  Not only do headbands add a little interest to outfits, but they’re an amazing way to accessorize bathing suits without tan lines.

Rainy Day Rite Aid Trip

For some reason whenever it rains, I feel the need to go to a drugstore.

Rainy Day

It doesn’t matter if it’s Target, Rite Aid, or Walgreens, but going becomes an urgent must.  I just so happened to have a rainy day this week, and I think that I went to Rite Aid for a reason…

Rite Aid Haul

but I’m sure I forgot whatever I needed.  I freaking love Rite Aid, I go there so often that I’ve managed to reach the gold level (for three years in a row) and receive 20% off of my purchases!  I can’t go to a drugstore without spending a minimum of $50, here’s what I walked out with this week…

Masks Galore

I can usually never find masks in a tube, so I settle for a whole bunch of individual packets.  I love a good face mask.  These masks were on sale for freaking 99 cents per tube… total steal.

Baby Products

Oil Gel

I stay using baby products, they’re made for sensitive skin.  When the weather changes erratically, my skin gets like lizard dry.  I was using this shea butter vaseline oil gel, but I’m not a huge fan of the shea butter scent… I was super excited when I saw plain baby oil gel.  I love this scent, why doesn’t someone make a candle scented like baby oil?  Every baby scented product that I take a whiff of smells like powder, and I hate the scent of powder.  This gel is amazing, it’s like coconut water for your skin.

I had heard good things about this concealer, so I had to try it.  It’s awesome.  The concealer covers dark circles without being cakey, and it blends amazingly well.  Probably one of the best drugstore concealers that I’ve ever used.

Waterproof Scara

Waterproof Mascara

I don’t think any of my current mascaras are waterproof, I’m not a huge fan of waterproof scara because it’s hard to wash off.  You can never go wrong with Great Lash, ever.  J’adore this mascara, it stays on and it’s clump free.

Summer Lips

Bold Lips I read something on Buzzfeed recently about the best drugstore makeup, and Wet N Wild lipstick was on that list.  Wet N Wild products are just like ELF, they’re only like $2.  It looked like the springy/summery shades had already been picked through, there were a lot of reds left.  I did manage to find one bright pink in the shade Smoken Hot Pink #905D.  I’m in love with this shade, it’s thick and matte.  It also stays on for a solid three hours, and it’s perfect for summer… it makes you look glam with just a swipe + big sunnies.  I also picked up a new product, the Wet N Wild Balm Stain.  I had never seen or heard of the Balm Stain before, but for a measly $3 I decided to try the shade A Stiff Pink #127.  I thought that this shade would be slightly powdery, but it’s not and I’m glad.  The stain is light and durable, perfect for spring.  The stain seriously stayed on for like 6 hours, I was shocked.  I’m def going to pick up more Balm Stains… but be careful, they stain your skin too.

Periwinkle Nails

Blue Nails

I had been checking out a Sinful Colors shade very similar to this one for a few weeks, but it was like really Cinderella and had glitter in it… I hate glitter polish.  Rite Aid always has things that you can’t find at Target, and they had this perfect blue nail color.  The nail polish is in the shade Hip To Be Square #1419, and it’s seriously the color of the sky on a warm spring day.  I don’t usually like blue nails, but I’m obsessed with this color.

I also got a couple must haves like coconut water, dish soap, and benadryl… taking my total cost (with discount) to $53… Drugstores get me every time.  What are some of your fave drugstore buys?

Happy Sunday ♡

Cucumber Melon Salad

Cucumber melon is so much more than a Bath & Body Works scent.

Cucumber Melon Salad

It’s a way of life, a flat stomach kind of life.  I think that melons are an extremely underrated food… why isn’t there readily available melon juice?  Both of these fruits are hydrating, and refreshing.  Here’s how to make a gorgeous cucumber melon salad.

Cucumber Melon

You’ll need a half cup of diced cucumbers (remove the seeds), and one cup of diced melon.

Skinny Salad

Mix the diced cucs + mellies in a bowl.  Add 1 teaspoon if honey, and 1/4 teaspoon of lemon pepper.  If you’re not into lemon pepper, squeeze a lime wedge over the salad instead.  Toss that salad.

Summer Salad

Serve the salad over a bed of low-fat cottage cheese, or greek yogurt.  If you want to make the plates look fancy, add a drizzle of honey.  This salad is sweet, refreshing, tangy, and crunchy.  J’adore the textures and flavors.  When served correctly, this salad is beautiful.

Be cooler than a cucumber.

DIY: Surf Spray

Pugs, reality TV, pineapple coconut water, surf spray… these are a few of my favorite things.

DIY Sea Salt Spray

Salt sprays are my fave hair product ever, I love messy and imperfect hair.  Every spring I start getting excited, because that means that beachy waves are about to come back in style (although I rock them year round).  Sea salt sprays can be expensive, and all of the options are overwhelming.  Here’s how to turn out your own surf spray.

DIY Salt Spray

All you need is sunscreen, sea salt, a 3 oz spray bottle, and water.  I wanted to use a 3 oz bottle so you can pass TSA regulations… you have to look good on spring break + vacay.

DIY Surf Spray

Fill your bottle (almost to the top) with hot water, leave about a centimeter of the bottle empty.

Salt Spray

Add 1/4 tsp. of sea salt + 1/4 tsp. of sunscreen to the hot water.

Sea Salt Spray

Shake vigorously.  When the spray cools down, it’s ready to use.

DIY Beach Spray

I’m obsessed with this spray because it smells like summer, I loooove the scent of sunblock.  Not only does the spray give you beachy waves, but the sunscreen keeps your hair soft while protecting your scalp.

Spray it, don’t say it.
